Aptly called The People Place, Kuching Waterfront was built for the people of Sarawak and visitors alike. Stretching almost 1,3km, it’s a riverside walk that links the hotel precinct with down-town Kuching. The Waterfront is ‘self-contained’ together with amenities for relaxation, entertainment, refreshment, arts appreciation and cultural enjoyment. There are vendors promoting Sarawak’s famous ‘Kek Lapis’ (layered cakes), local souvenirs and even the ‘gambir’, a traditional painkiller medicine or to some, a local version of the ‘Viagra’
Go on the Sarawak River Cruise to experience and observe the Waterfront from a different perspective. You can also get a ride across the river using the ‘tambang’ (water taxi). When on the other side, visit the historic Fort Margherita for a more informative evening.
Head to one of Kuching’s most popular hangout spots at the Drunk Monkey Old Street Bar. A one of a kind vintage bar, it’s located at the historical Carpenter Street, right in the middle of the city centre, making it very accessible. It serves local finger food to go with your choice of drinks to chill out, relax and enjoy the vibe and friendly company amongst the local ‘Kuchingites.’ For non-smokers, It’s also the only smoke- free bar in the whole of Kuching!
